Since 1978 I’ve illustrated over 125 children's books, thirty or so of which I’ve written as well. Among my many honors I’ve gained a place on the New York Times Children’s Best Sellers list and on the 2003 Children’s Literature Choice list. I’ve received a National Cartoonist’s Society Reuben award for Book Illustration, the 2004 Christopher Award for my book illustrations, the 2007 Maryland Blue Crab Award and the 2009 California Young Readers Medal.
I’ve displayed my original art in France, Italy, Romania and the USA, including the prestigious Original Art, the annual children’s book art show at the Society of Illustrators in New York City.
Recently, along with my book work, I’ve traveled around France and parts of Europe painting en plein air, capturing the light in Provence, the old buildings in the small towns of the country side, and absorbing European culture and cooking, as well as a few extra kilos, making my base here in Paris, France.
